Discover Chubby’S Burgers

Walking into Chubby’S Burgers feels like stepping into a place where the grill never cools down and the regulars know exactly what they want before they reach the counter. Located at 420 McNulty St Suite A, Blythewood, SC 29016, United States, this neighborhood diner has built its reputation the old-school way-by serving hearty burgers, listening to customers, and keeping things simple without cutting corners. I first stopped in after a long drive through Blythewood, and the smell alone made the decision for me. That kind of instinctive pull usually means the kitchen knows what it’s doing.

The menu leans into classic American comfort food, but there’s a clear focus on burgers done right. Fresh beef patties are pressed and grilled to order, which you can tell by the sear and the way the juices stay locked in. I watched the cook flip patties with the kind of rhythm that only comes from repetition and pride. According to USDA food safety guidelines, ground beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F, and you can see that level of care here without the meat turning dry. That balance is harder to pull off than most people think, and it shows experience behind the grill.

One of the most talked-about items on the menu is the loaded cheeseburger, stacked with crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, onions, and melted cheese that actually tastes like cheese, not plastic. A local high school coach I chatted with mentioned he brings his team here after Friday night games because the portions are generous and consistent. Real-world loyalty like that matters more than flashy marketing. Reviews around town often highlight the same thing: reliable flavor, fair prices, and a relaxed atmosphere where nobody rushes you out the door.

Beyond burgers, the diner offers sides that feel intentional instead of obligatory. The fries come out hot and seasoned evenly, and the onion rings have that light crunch that suggests a fresh batter rather than something frozen and forgotten. The CDC often emphasizes proper oil temperature for frying to avoid sogginess and excess grease, and whoever is running the fryer here clearly understands that process. It’s those small technical details that separate a decent diner from one people keep returning to.

What also stands out is how the staff interacts with customers. Orders are repeated back, special requests are remembered, and first-timers get recommendations without feeling upsold. I once asked how busy lunch usually gets, and the cashier explained their prep routine, including how they stagger cooking to keep wait times reasonable while maintaining quality. That kind of transparency builds trust, especially in a local restaurant where word-of-mouth drives most traffic.

Location-wise, being tucked into Blythewood gives this spot a community-first vibe. It’s easy to access, with enough parking to handle the lunch rush, and it feels like a place designed for locals rather than tourists. Online reviews consistently mention cleanliness, which aligns with guidance from organizations like the National Restaurant Association that stress visible sanitation as a key factor in customer confidence. While no place is perfect, occasional waits during peak hours are the most common complaint, and even that tends to come with a note that the food is worth it.

For anyone who values straightforward food, honest portions, and a menu that sticks to what it does best, this diner checks a lot of boxes. The experience feels grounded, the expertise is evident in the cooking process, and the trust comes naturally when a place delivers the same quality visit after visit.

  • We wanted something non-chain on our drive through and Chubby’s was a great choice! The mushroom burger & chips hit the spot and my wife loved her Chubby’s burger & fries. Staff were super friendly and portions were generous. We will definitely stop again next trip though!!

  • First time customer, I saw it online and thought week I'll just stop by and grab us something. Nice people and Great customer service. I order some chip fries for the 20 minute drive home. I think $9.75 but Wow!! I was so disappointed! More comes in a bag of the $1 individual lays. Granted they were better than I've had before. I mean Really Chubby, maybe spend less on the nice to go containers and put more than less than half in the small container that I received. I know potatoes don't cost that much and I make them at home. So the Burgers were as Good as I had hoped. The downside was that the tomatoes were white, crunchy and tasted like a turnip. The lettuce tasted like medicine, although I know some things are out of your control. Maybe switch brands or something. The portion was ok esp for the price. $42 for two plates, chips and a sweet tea to go. I hope this was a one off! I did notice that the dine in customers seemed Happy and it was good vibes throughout!

  • Chubby's serves smash burgers. I chose the mushroom burger with bacon, Swiss and garlic aoili sauce ( they didn't skimp on the bacon and it was thick sliced). It was delicious! My side order was fries and they too were delicious. The seasoning on the fries made me skip using ketchup! Lunch was delicious! Our waitress was Taylor and she was so sweet and attentive! Kept our sweet tea full and checked on us often. She was friendly and courteous. Once we ordered it did not take long to get our food. The atmosphere was great. Loved the music playing and there are plenty TV's to watch different sports if you choose. Absolutely will return to this place to eat. Best smash burger I've ever eaten thus far. I thought the prices were fair too.

  • The best part of my visit was my server, Emma. She was attentive, friendly, and probably the highlight of the whole experience. If this review was based on her alone, it would be five stars. Unfortunately, the food just didn’t measure up. My “raw” fries came out burned, the burger’s top bun was peeling apart yet still stuck awkwardly to the meat, and there wasn’t much dressing at all. On top of that, the cheese had a gummy texture that made it hard to enjoy. Altogether, it left a less than favorable taste in my mouth. I really wanted to like this place, and I appreciate the great service, but the food needs some serious improvement.

  • Me and my husband are traveling to see christmas lights not to far but wanted to try something different on the way so i seen this place on tik tok and had to try it! I love a good smashed burger! Walked in and the atmosphere was very relaxed with dim lighting and you can tell there lots of regulars here. I personally loved the “seat yourself” policy but i know some wouldn’t. I always get stressed out about where i’ll be sitting so this takes a huge weight off ky shoulders. Waitress was BEAUTIFUL nice fun energy and the food just made the experience better! The crispy edges on the patties is unmatched not to mention a toasted bun and their special bacon onion jam!! Definitely coming back!!

  • My whole family loves Chubby’s! Their burgers are hands down the best in the Columbia area. I’m always craving their Chubby’s Burger with the sweet jam, it’s incredible! The Chubby Fries are so unique and flavorful; we recommend getting them half floppy. The kids’ mini sliders are also amazing. They’re not your typical flavorless kids’ meal with a strange looking patty, these actually taste great and are a perfect portion. I also love that burgers come with fries included; so many places make you buy them separately. We tried the pickle fries this time and wow! They were gone in about three minutes. On our last visit, we got the cheese curds, which are another family favorite. The customer service is always super friendly, and it’s such a great spot to bring kids. We’ve never had a bad experience. Overall, we highly recommend Chubby’s!

  • This place is a typical bar and restaurant with wooden booths and tables. Service was excellent. Burgers were smash burger style and very good! Fresh cut fries, and the onion rings were some of the best I’ve had. Also had a blonde stout from Remedy Brewing that was really good.

  • Stopped by Sunday for dinner before heading home and it was Great! I sat at the bar and the service was great, she made sure I was good the whole time I was there. The Fried Green tomatoes were a Hit especially with the pimento cheese spread and the burger was even better! I will definitely be stopping by again soon!
